Heather Watts Biography

Notable: Born 1953; New York City Ballet

Heather Watts was born in Long Beach, California, in 1953. She studied at the School of American Ballet with Stanley Williams, Eglevsky and Danilova. Joined the New York City Ballet in 1970. She was appointed soloist in 1979 and principal in 1979. A dancer with unusual elevation and dramatic intensity.

She created many roles, among other in Balanchine’s Walpurgisnacht Ballet (1980) and Davidsbündertänze (1980), Robbin’s Four Seasons (1979), Piano Pieces (1981), Four Chamber Works (1982) and Tango (1983), and Martin’s Calcium Light Night (1977) and Fearful Symmetries (1990).

She retired from the stage in 1995.
