Marie-Agnès Gillot was born in Caen in 1975. She entered the Paris Opéra Ballet School in 1985 and joined the company in 1990, when she was only 15 years old. She was promoted to principal (première danseuse) in 1999, and to Etoile in 2004. Repertoire includes: Nutcracker "Les deux flocons" et "La danse arabe" 1996, Sleeping Beauty "Fée violente", "Fée Carabosse" et "Fée Lilas" 1997, Raymonda "Henriette" et "Grand pas espagnol" 1997, title-role 2000, Don Quixote "La Reine des Dryades" et "La danseuse des rues" 1998, "Kitri" 2001, Swan Lake "Odette/Odile" 2002, La Bayadère "Gamzatti" 1999, "Nikiya" 2001 (all Nureyev versions).
