Svetlana Zakharova was born in Louzk (Ukraine), in 1979. She studied at Kiev Ballet School (ballet-teacher Valeria Sulegina), and since 1995 - at Vaganova Ballet Academy (class of Prof. Elena Evteyeva). Joined the Mariinsky Theatre in 1996. Promoted to Principal in 1997. She transferred to the Bolshoi Theatre in the summer 2003.

Repertoire includes:
Nutcracker (Masha, Pas de Trois, Doll), Don Quixote (Queen of Dryads/ Kitri), The Sleeping Beauty (Princess Florine, Princess Aurora), Giselle (Sulmah, Giselle), Swan Lake (Big swans, Odette-Odile), Chopiniana (Walse in C Sharp minor, Mazurka), Le Corsaire (Gulnarah, Medorah), The Fountain of Bakhchisarai (Maria), Romeo and Juliet (Juliet' s Friend), Apollo (Terpsichore), La Bayadere (Nikia), Serenade (soloist), Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, Symphony in C (Ist Movement), Jewels (Diamonds), Poeme de l`extase, Manon (Manon), Now and Then (by Neumeier), Young Lady and Hooligan (Young Lady).

Awards:
Prizewinner (Vaganova-Prix) at the 3rd International Ballet Competition (St. Petersburg, 1995).
Prizewinner of BALTIKA prize (1997).
St Petersburg theatrical prize "Golden Sophit" (1998).
Russian "Golden Mask" (1999).
