Moira Shearer was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, in 1926. She joined Sadler's Wells Ballet in 1942. With SWB she danced
The Quest, Symphonic Variations and Cinderella among others. She became most known for her
title role in the beautiful film The Red Shoes in 1948 by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
She left ballet in 1952, when she was only 27, to pursue a career as an actress.
