Ekaterina Shipulina was born in Perm in a ballet dancers family. From 1989 to 1994 she studied in the Perm College of Choreography, then she continued her education in Moscow and from 1994 to 1998 studied in Ludmila Litavkina's class, in the Moscow College of Choreography which in 1995 was transformed into the Moscow State Academy of Choreography. After finishing her education in the Academy she joined the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Company. Her Bolshoi Theatre repertoire was prepared together with the teacher-rehearser Marina Kondratieva.

Repertoire includes:
Kitri in Don Quxote, Pas de deux in Agon, The soloist of IVth part in The Symphony in C, Leading soloist in Magrittomania, Odette-Odile in Swan Lake, Gamzatti in La Bayadere, Myrtha in Giselle, Classical Danceress in The Bright Stream, Henrietta in Raymonda, Esmeralda in Notre-Dame de Paris, The seventh waltz and the Prelude in Chopiniana.
