Elisabeth Platel was born in Pari in 1959. She studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, graduating in 1975 with first prize. After further studies at the Paris Opéra Ballet School 1975-76 she joined the company in 1976. Promoted to étoile in 1981. With her beautiful feet, high extensions, pure style she was one the finest representants of the French School. She danced all the leading roles in the classical repertoire. She appeared as a guest with many companies, including the Royal Ballet, the Royal Danish Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet. Retired from the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1999.

Awards:
Silver Medal of the Varna dance competition in 1978.
Chevalier des Arts et Lettres.
