Anya Linden was born in Manchester, England, in 1933. Spent her childhood in California, where she received her early training.
She returned to England in 1947 and studied at the Sadler's Wells. Entered the company in 1951.
She was promoted soloist 1954 and ballerina 1958.
She is strikingly beautiful. Danced all the leading classical roles and also modern ballets
as Antigone and La Fete Etrange. She created roles in MacMillan's Noctambules 1956
and Agon 1958 and Cranko's The Prince of the Pagodas 1957.
She retired early, in 1965, but as Lady Sainsbury she became an influential force in British ballet.
