Violetta Elvin was born in Moscow 1924. Graduated from Bolshoi School 1942. Became soloist with the Bolshoi 1944. Married an English writer and moved to England 1945. Joined Sadler's Wells Ballet and was teached by Vera Volkova.

Repertoire includes: Swan Lake, Don Quixote, The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Sleeping Beauty, Ballet Imperial, Three-Cornered Hat, Ballabile, Birthday Offering, Cinderella, Daphnis and Chloe.

Retired 1956 while still at the height of her career.
