Diana Adams was born in Stanton, Va, in 1926. She studied with de Mille, Tudor and others. Joined Ballet Theatre in 1943, promoted soloist in 1945. Then danced with New York City Ballet from 1950-1963. She was a dancer of unusually long and graceful proportions.

One of Balanchine's leading interpreters, creating roles in his La Valse 1951, Opus 34 1954, Agon 1957 and Liebeslieder Waltzer 1960.

After retiring from stage she taught at the School of American Ballet.
